Not everyone takes the same path to the FBI. Our Special Agents bring varied backgrounds and knowledge to their role — from educators, athletes and IT specialists to lawyers, linguists and counselors. Collectively, we’re focused on cybercrime, counterintelligence, counterterrorism and beyond. An elite few qualify for mission-centric tactical groups, like the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) and the Evidence Response Team (ERT). How can your life experience lead to a thriving career at the FBI? Let’s find out.
Intelligence CareersOur country’s enemies don’t take a day off. FBI Intelligence Agents work tirelessly and proactively to identify threats, gaps and vulnerabilities. They use their natural curiosity to assess complex information and make real-time analytical judgments. All so that decision makers can form a strategy to neutralize specific and emerging threats. If you’re built to be on the front lines of securing our nation, and for high performance under pressure, FBI Intelligence Analyst may be the ultimate career for you.
Stem CareersYour Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) background provides skill sets in areas the FBI needs most. Whether it’s analyzing DNA evidence or real-time data to prevent future threats, your STEM expertise will continue to grow using breakthrough technologies across the entire Bureau. As much as your technological expertise, the FBI values your tenacity in getting to the truth. STEM professionals are stationed at FBI Headquarters and in our 56 Field Offices, but primarily within the Laboratory Division, Operational Technology Division, Cyber Division, Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division and the Information Technology Branch. If you’re ready to push beyond your limits and embrace your hidden strengths, you’re ready for an FBI career. See which STEM career fits you best.
Business, Administration and FacilitiesMuch like a behind-the-scenes dream team, FBI Finance, Administration and Facilities professionals provide mission-critical support services to all FBI levels and locations. Finance professionals boost efficiencies and support investigations by managing funds across departments, tracking money trails and overseeing the Bureau’s budget of more than $8 billion. Management and Program Analysts perform research and analysis of management and program functions and prepare recommendations to FBI management for the development of proposed activities. Logistics professionals provide optimized, reliable support for all FBI services, including mail, fleet, infrastructure and real estate. These are just a few of the many specialized areas you can contribute to. All we ask is that you bring your best and are willing to meet new challenges head-on.
Police and SecurityWhile the FBI protects the people of our nation, FBI Police and Security professionals protect FBI employees and ensure the safety of workspaces at home and abroad. On duty 24/7, these teams keep surrounding areas secure by administering security programs, establishing procedures for processing security requests, providing security training to the workforce and more. Toughened inside and out, these teams are specially trained and stand prepared for incidents small and large.
Foreign LanguagesAs an FBI Foreign Language professional, your work entails more than mere words. You’re providing valuable intelligence about criminal and terrorist activity on American soil. From translating documents and serving as an interpreter to identifying counterintelligence threats, your duties are varied but all make use of your knowledge of language, culture and history of foreign nations, as well as your keen eye for detail. Our FBI language professionals begin as Contract Linguists, and the best may be invited to join the FBI full time as Language Analysts.
LegalAt the FBI, your fierce pursuit of truth and justice aren’t just engrained into your character — they’re put to meaningful use every day. FBI Attorneys advise on a broad spectrum of challenges that affect matters of national security, litigation, investigations, counterterrorism, cyber matters and more. All while staying on top of federal statutes, case law and precedents. Not every job lets you use your legal expertise to protect the nation like this one does.
Medical and CounselingWhether helping victims navigate life in the aftermath of a crime, being first on the scene to administer care to fellow colleagues during critical situations or ensuring the medical readiness of all FBI employees, FBI Medical and Counseling professionals bring a wide range of skill sets and responsibilities, including roles as Special Agent Medics, Occupational Health Nurses, Employee Assistance Counselors, Mental Health Assessment Specialists and Victim Specialists. We rely on our employees’ specialized medical training to care for victims, provide employee mental health guidance and occupational assistance or in supporting crisis response and antiterrorism efforts as a Special Agent Medic.
Opportunities for Students and Recent GraduatesWith an eye on the future, the FBI is always looking for outstanding candidates with proven leadership abilities in athletics, student government, campus organizations and the community. If you’re a high school student, college graduate, undergrad or doctoral student who lives for a challenge and grows stronger under pressure, we offer opportunities to gain in-depth experience before graduation with our Honors Internship Program or begin a career directly after graduation with our Collegiate Hiring Initiative.
